The Flower Fields in Bay Area offer some of the most breathtaking backdrops for your next family or maternity photo session. Even though this post doesn’t give you exact locations, it will give you some tips on when to seek out these flowers and the best time to book a session!
Mustard Flower Fields in the Bay Area
This first flower has such a glowing look with a burst of a cheerful yellow color! These create a dreamy backdrop for any photoshoot. These flowers bloom in late January-early February.

Almond Blossoms Flower Fields in the Bay Area
Next, is the magical Almond Blossom orchards! These amazing flowers can bring light into any image and make for a stunning backdrop! These bloom around the third week of February.

Peach Blossoms
The Peach Blossom, also called the Pink Blossom, is just like the Almond Blossom but with a pop of color! These incredible flowers give you the fairy-tale location that you have been looking for! These bloom around the first three weeks in March. Please be sure to contact farm owners to be respectful of their property and livelihood. I only hold a small amount of sessions for these so please contact me soon if you would like to book for 2025!

Poppies Flower Fields in the Bay Area
Can you picture a more romantic backdrop? The California State Flower of the Poppy blooms during March/early April and is very delicate and cherished! Keep in mind that picking them is illegal and be careful to not squish or step on them while shooting. I look for where there is a natural bare spot on the ground and place my blanket there for sitting shots. These bloom in many regional/state parks all over California in the spring!

Lupines
Immerse yourself in these breathtaking flowers for a stunning solo set or family portfolio! Similar to the Poppy flower, the Lupine is very delicate and cherished! Lupines bloom in April. The amount of blooms varies quite a bit from year to year depending on water conditions.

Yellow Lupines
Walking on sunshine! These beauties are the same as the Lupines above but are a beautiful golden, yellow! These bloom at a similar time to the lavender colored Lupines, during the month of April.

Iris Flower Fields in the Bay Area
One of my personal favorites, the iris flower. The iris flower takes on different colors which is great for matching different muted tones for your family’s style! This flower blooms during the month of April.

Roses
Roses are red… not always! These soft, playful flowers add so much to any photo shoot! These flowers typically bloom throughout the year, but are most beautiful and in full bloom in May. Look up rose gardens in your area and check to make sure if your particular spot needs a permit before your session!

Lavender Flower Fields in the Bay Area
If you dream of lavender, these gorgeous rows of purple bloom in June. Lavender farms often require bookings months in advance so it’s important to get on mailing lists and in contact as soon as possible.

Sunflower
This flower is sure to bring a pop of color into any photo shoot! Sunflowers bloom in July. Many sunflower farms are hesitant to allow photographers on their properties because they have been misused and damaged. Be sure to treat properties as you would your own!

The Lavender and Lupine shoot had beautiful floral pieces from Le Bloomerie! Please check out their amazing work here!
As you can see I am obsessed with California flowers! If you are a client looking to book please keep in mind that these are only approximate blooming times and the wild nature of flowers cannot be exactly predicted. 🙂 Be sure to check out more about my photography click here!
