Fall and Holiday Outfits for your Family Photoshoot

Fall and Holiday Outfits for your Family Photoshoot: Light & Airy Looks for Magical Photos

As the fall season and holidays approach, it’s the perfect time to plan your family photo sessions. With so many options for outfits, it can be overwhelming to find the right balance between looking coordinated without feeling too “matchy-matchy.” I believe in the beauty of soft tones, timeless pieces, and color palettes that blend seamlessly for a cohesive yet individual look.

For both fall and holiday sessions, I’m excited to share my fall and holiday for your family photoshoot showing some of my favorite light and airy outfit ideas. These outfits will bring a timeless elegance to your photos, while still reflecting the season. And don’t worry, you won’t find any cheesy red plaid here!

1. Light and Airy Fall Color Palettes on Fall and Holiday Outfits for your Family Photoshoot

When you think of fall, it’s easy to picture deep, heavy tones, but fall can be soft, warm, and inviting, too! My favorite palettes blend colors like muted greens, soft yellows, and gentle peachy pinks, creating a light and fresh look that still feels seasonal.

I love to mix a palette of at least 4 colors for a family of 4 for more depth and visual interest.

Here are a few ideas for fall color combinations:

  • Greens, Yellows & Muted Peachy Pinks: This palette feels soft and natural, adding a pop of fall warmth while still staying true to the light and airy style.
  • Apricots, Greens & Light Taupe: These colors blend beautifully to create an autumnal look that’s warm without feeling heavy.
  • Soft tones of Mauves, Soft Greens, and with Warm Grays : Soft mauve tones mixed with light neutrals like cream gray or beige give a romantic, ethereal feel to fall photos.

Each of these combinations allows you to play with textures, floral patterns, and soft solids. Think flowy dresses, light sweaters, and textured scarves, all blending effortlessly.

2. Holiday Outfits that Shine Without the Plaid

Let’s move beyond the traditional red and green plaids of Christmases past. While classic, they don’t always align with the ethereal, light and airy style I love to capture. Instead, reflect the icy beauty of winter with soft tones like blues, whites, grays, and even hints of soft purple.

Here are some holiday color palettes that will shine in your photos:

  • Icy Blues, Whites & Grey: This cool, refreshing palette is perfect for reflecting the winter season without overwhelming the image.
  • Soft Purples with Neutral Greys & Whites: Add a hint of unexpected color while staying true to the soft, wintry feel.
  • Champagne & Silver Tones mixed with soft rose ad creams : These elegant neutrals add a touch of glamour without feeling over the top, perfect for a more formal holiday session.

3. Styling Tips for Families with these Style Boards

  • Pick a Palette of 3-4 Colors: The key to looking coordinated but not “matchy-matchy” is choosing a palette with 3-4 colors that blend well together. This gives each family member a unique look while still ensuring a cohesive feel in your photos.
  • Mix Patterns and Solids: Don’t be afraid to mix soft patterns like subtle florals or checks with solid pieces. This adds depth and interest to your outfits while keeping things soft and cohesive.
  • Textures Are Your Friend: Knits, linen, and other textures add dimension to your look. Combining textures with soft tones makes your photos more dynamic and timeless.
