The most frequently asked question I get on Instagram and from my online students is… what photography equipment do you use? Gear is SO important to the success of your photoshoots! I am going to share with you my favorite photography equipment and top reasons I choose Sony over many other amazing camera companies.
My favorite camera and lenses are able to easily nail focus with really low light and not sacrifice fast movement. I love movement in my photos. Movement brings out people’s personalities and keeps photos from being stiff and awkward. Keep reading to find out more about why I choose Sony gear and recommend it to all my friends and students!

Low Light Capability
First, I LOVE Sony because of it’s amazing low light capability. I don’t have to worry about bringing my iso up on my Sony! I know that the photos will still look amazing.
My Favorite Photography Equipment for Focus
Second, is the Sony camera’s incredible eye auto focus. I can be shooting really wide, even F1.4 to bring in massive amounts of light into my lens, and still nail focus. I cannot live without the way my Sony tracks people’s eyeballs. That way, I can concentrate on the more important things, like posing and composition! I just hold down the back button focus and shoot away! 🙂

My Favorite Photography Equipment for Shooting Speed
Third, is the amazing continuous shooting speed. I can get 10 frames per second! Usually, I’m shooting intentionally and not just clicking away, but sometimes you need to do that when you have a fast moving kid or couple. This is a lifesaver for capturing just the right moment. 🙂
Touch Screen
Next, the touch screen is a game changer! My Sony has a touch screen that can be moved up and down. This is just a fun bonus but it’s one of the many things I love!
Battery and Dual Card Slot
There is nothing like your battery running out in the middle of a shoot. Dual card slot and long memory life is another bonus with my Sony camera! Mirrorless cameras used to have a lousy battery life and not include dual card slots, but that has changed! Sonys all have amazing battery life.

Native Lenses
Finally, the amazing native lenses. Yes, Sony’s high quality lenses are not cheap. They are an investment, but they last and you don’t have to recalibrate your camera and lenses all the time like some other camera companies that will remain unnamed. I LOVE my GMaster 50 mm 1.2, my GMaster 85 1.4. and GMaster 35 1.4. Below I explain the differences and what I typically use them for.
85mm Lens
The lens focal length that I use the MOST is the 85 mm. This amazing lens gives me all the dreamy backgrounds, lighter shadows, and creamy bokeh! This collage below is me using my 85 mm.

50 mm Lens
This lens is GREAT for mid range focal length. It is a staple if you are a wedding photographer. I do prefer the longer focal length of the 85 for my outdoor portrait sessions.

35 mm Lens
Below is a collage in the same location, but using my 35 mm lens. This lens is much easier to use with a larger group of people, for wide scenic shots, or if I ever shoot indoors. You can tell I can still achieve my signature style with this lens, however, there is more detail in the background shadows and background is less creamy than with the 85. It is also nice if I have a baby that is not connecting with me when I am too far away or behind the camera. With the 35 I can be much closer and play peekaboo or make them laugh or giggle from up close and then take the shot.

All of these lenses fit my light and airy style, but just are used for different purposes.

Thank you for your break down of your lens collection. These are incredible images.
Absolutely beautiful colors and photography. The location, the flowers, and your composition is gorgeous.
Hey Amber! I LOVE your photos, so dreamy and detailed! Quick question, do you have a preference between the Sonya7iv and the Sonya7rii? I am currently on the fence between the two and not sure which one would be a better choice to lean towards. Thank you so much!
